The plot may not so much thicken as thin on The Bold and the Beautiful the week of October 2. After R.J. takes Luna into his confidence about granddad Eric’s condition on Tuesday, she returns the favor a day later by disclosing a little bit more about her past — potentially giving us a big hint about what her future holds.

Ever since Forrester Creations’ newest intern received that call from a mystery woman warning her not to get mixed up with…well, the very family in whose home she was at that moment standing, viewers have been pulling out their hair trying to figure out her identity. (See the likeliest suspects here.)
Whoever was sounding the alarm obviously has a history with the Forresters that she doesn’t want to see Luna repeat. But why? Is Luna the woman’s daughter? Is the woman an old flame who got burned by a Forrester? Is she a back-from-the-dead Macy — and just in time to complicate husband Deacon’s engagement to Sheila? (Here’s what Bobbie Eakes says about the likelihood of her character rising from the grave.)
Amber Alert
Some fans have suggested that Luna is a surprise granddaughter of Eric’s. (He does have a lotta kids that have spent a lot of time off the canvas!) But if that were the case, it would end Luna’s budding romance with R.J. before it ever got started.
Our hunch is that Luna is besties with Rosie, aka Amber Moore’s daughter with Donna’s son (and Eric’s adopted son), Marcus. Rosie grew up hearing Amber’s stories of excess among the Forresters and took away from the cautionary tales a fascination with the fashionable family, not a fear of them. And when she retold the stories to Luna, they got even bigger —to the point that the budding designer just had to see for herself.
So it’s Amber who, upon learning from Rosie where Luna is, called to tell her daughter’s gal pal to steer clear of the Forresters. When Luna refuses to do anything of the sort, Amber will have to pack up Rosie and do the last thing that she wants to: return to L.A. and the hot mess that is life among her former in-laws.

Back in 2003, playboy Ridge Forrester (then Ronn Moss) and former stepmother Brooke Logan were in South America to tie the knot for the third time when the groom was kidnapped by merry murderess Sheila Carter, another former stepmother but one that he had no interest in marrying. One thing, as they always do, led to another, and Ridge was presumed to have died after taking a swan dive into a furnace.

Five minutes later, Brooke did the only sensible thing — for a soap character, anyway —and had grief sex with Ridge’s half brother, Nick Marone. Five minutes after that, Ridge was revealed to be alive and well and not even half-, much less all-the-way baked, and Brooke was, per the laws of daytime television, pregnant with a child of unknown origin.

As Brooke, Ridge and Nick eagerly awaited the results of one paternity test after another, busybody Sally Spectra, Nick’s mother Jackie Payne and Brooke’s babydaddy Deacon Sharpe —basically, half of Los Angeles! — took a turn altering the results.

Until it was finally determined that Brooke’s newborn was Ridge’s, not Nick’s, the sibling rivals and Brooke stayed close. Too close, if this picture is any indication. We can only hope that Ridge’s state of undress was a result of his misapprehension that Brooke would want to celebrate the news by making love and not because he was about to volunteer to breastfeed Ridge Jr.

Although Brooke had clearly taught R.J. that only he could prevent forest beach fires —as well as that marshmallows are delicious —he and big sister Hope still set Mom’s house ablaze when they were accidentally left home alone. Since the incident occurred during one of Brooke’s countless splits from Ridge, he reacted by stepping up and taking a more active role in his son’s life suing for custody.

When Brooke’s plane went down over the South Pacific in 2011, Ridge did his damnedest to keep it a secret from R.J. (at this point Jack Horan). But of course, Brooke was fine. Better than fine, in fact. For a brief, shining moment when she was high on boinkberries, she could really mean it when she said that…

Thankfully, despite being hot for one another, Brooke and stepson Thomas (then Adam Gregory) resisted the fruit-fueled urge to shag one another and instead imagined that they were at a tropical rave. Or… whatever this is. Something.

Eh, not quite. By the time that R.J. returned from boarding school in 2016, a lot had changed — and we don’t just mean that Anthony Turpel was playing Ridge Jr. and Thorsten Kaye, Ridge Sr. Brooke, as reliably as the changing of the seasons, had become engaged to someone new.

R.J. was all about reuniting his parents, but he couldn’t deny that there were some things that he liked about the idea of having a stepfather like Bill Spencer whose nickname started with the word “dollar.”

Because the workplace is for one thing and one thing only — romance! — R.J. fell head over heels for the first Forrester Creations intern to return his gaze. As dictated by soap-opera odds, that intern just happened to come with a massive downside in the form of her…

Like the great aunt after whom she was named, Sally Spectra spent so much of her time in hot water, it was a wonder that pruning wasn’t a bigger issue. And when she was arrested for stealing Forrester Creations designs, not to mention using kid sister Coco as her accomplice, all R.J. could do to support his girlfriend was pretend that she had succeeded in convincing everyone that she was a mannequin.

To impress Coco, R.J. took her for a spin in Dad’s bitchin’ Camaro. Unfortunately, the joy was jolted out of their ride when R.J. gave his bae a turn at the wheel, and she learned the hard way that steering and selfie-taking do not mix.

We wouldn’t have blamed R.J. if he’d wanted to ground Pop after he went missing in the Persian Gulf. It wasn’t Ridge’s fault — Bill had had him tossed from a helicopter for crashing his and Brooke’s wedding — but still. R.J.’s folks are better at vanishing than most magicians!

One more selfie, and then it was off to Paris R.J. went with half brother Rick and his family, wife Maya Avant and daughter Elizabeth. We didn’t hear much about the teenager after that, what with the focus shifting to the supposed “death” of Hope’s daughter, grandpa Eric’s erectile dysfunction and the return of loco Sheila. But we’ll give you a hint as to how R.J. spent his time overseas: “Gymnase” is “gymnasium” in French.

Upon his return to L.A. in the summer of 2023, R.J. (now Joshua Hoffman) revealed a rebellious streak along with his taut torso — and we were living for it. It’s a gutsy move for the heir to a fancypants fashion dynasty to rock a basic Hanes T, but “Bridge’s” son pulled it off. Literally.

Nothing… except that we couldn’t help but suspect that somewhere on the sidelines, R.J.’s half brother Thomas was trying to figure out whether his half brother would be an ally… or an adversary.

No sooner had he picked up a pencil for the first time to help ailing granddad Eric with his final fashion line than R.J. was rechristened “the anointed one.” Never mind that he didn’t have a droplet of Forrester blood coursing through his veins — owing to Ridge being the biological son of Massimo Marone — his family decided that he was the wunderkind to carry its legacy into the future. Sorry, Thomas.

The minute R.J. laid eyes on new Forrester Creations intern Luna Nozawa, he was a smitten kitten. But there was more to the fresh-faced would-be designer than met the eye. She was receiving calls from someone warning her to steer clear of… well, exactly the family for whom she now worked. What was up with that?

It never did make a lick of sense that Luna’s mother Poppy, much less her Aunt Li Finnegan, too, would have been so against her involvement with the Forresters. It wasn’t as if they had any idea of the kinds of hell that were about to break loose. And what kinds were those? The “all” kinds!

Jealous of R.J.’s golden-child status, cousin Zende Forrester sought to seduce Luna out from under him — and succeeded on an evening when she’d been popping Mom’s “special mints” like they were Mentos. But it would later turn out that the hookup had been part of Luna’s byzantine plan to convince Poppy’s long-ago lover Bill that he was her father. Because of course it was.

Only when R.J.’s half sister Steffy went missing did he start to figure out that maybe Luna was a few threads short of a spool. He and Steffy’s husband, Li’s son Finn Finnegan, played topless detectives and ultimately discovered that Luna really meant it when she told her boyfriend that she was…

22/23

Emphasis on the “crazy.” Alas, there was no way that R.J. and Luna’s romance could survive the fact that she called sex with Zende the best she’d ever had. Oh, and the fact that she murdered two innocent people, framed her mom, kissed Bill and kidnapped Steffy. Those were, um, also not good.
